Superintendent's Monday Morning Thoughts

HESD Board
Welcome to 2021! By Shannon Criss, Superintendent

I am fortunate that part of my job is getting to visit schools in Harney County.  I am lucky to have the opportunity to support and interact with some pretty amazing teachers and students.  During one of my visits  I was talking with a student and I love what she said, “Mrs. Criss, you know, 2020 brought about a lot of things that I am thankful for.  Things that I took for granted before, like being able to go to school.”  WOW!  Love it!  I couldn’t have said it better and it falls right in line with our emphasis around gratitude.  I would like to encourage us all to reflect back on 2020 and think about our own moments of gratitude. I am grateful for a family that loves me unconditionally.  I am grateful for a board of directors who do the tough work required to make sure that our kids are getting the best education possible.  I am grateful for a community that supports students and education.  January is National School Board Recognition Month.  THANK YOU to all of the men and women who are serving on a board; a school board, the ESD board (pictured above), a charter school board.  Your efforts are recognized, valued and appreciated!  The national theme is “Super Heroes” and that is truly what they are!  Be sure to listen to our local radio station  or visit our website as we honor these dedicated individuals.

Many family members tuned in remotely to witness the announcement. There will also be a celebration at the Chamber of Commerce's Community Center on January 23 at 4:00 p.m. Congratulations, Shannon, for this well-deserved honor!
